Films always show the millions profit (or loss)- but i assume , the industry works on percentages?- what is the acceptable % profit that the movie makers look for on their investment-is there a ballpark figure?

As a low budget movie making a few grand or so may have a huge % return against a very successful blockbuster which will have headline grabbing millions profit but in relative terms a small % profit

Why should you assume they work on percentages?

The people that invest money in movies know it's always a huge gamble. They might look at their overall percentage profit or loss over a year or so. But I would imagine they just look at the amount they made, or lost, on each title

What you have to remember also is revenue from worldwide DVD sales, which can be huge and often make just as much as profits from cinema showings long-term.

I would have said that most businesses might look back on a profit in percentage terms, but when they're aiming for it they talk and think in amounts rather than percentages. But maybe that's only the industries I've worked in

If you look at any period of film-making in any country you can probably find a lot of bad films, probably the majority that are made in any period. The trick is to look past the dross and look at the great films which you will also find made in any period

The Eady Levy led to a lot of bad films being made, but it also led to some great films being made.
