Ridley Scott is to direct the film of the Cormac McCarthy book, Blood Meridian. Many critics view this as on of the best books of the 20th century (he also wrote No Country for Old Men).

There are post critizing Ridley Scott as a director on IMDB. Is this just the modern fashion for iconoclasm, or is the critism valid? I always thought that Ridley Scott was pretty good.

The criticisms are only the opinions of a few individuals. Is there anyone who has never been criticised by anyone? You can't please all of the people all of the time

Blood Meridian is a very good book, in the hands of Ridley Scott, I can see some having reservations about him directing it. Mc Cormac is a highly thought of author in his homeland and most readers of his books regard ' Blood Meridian' as his finest work.

The problem that some people have with Ridley Scott is the fact that he did two films back to back that define modern day science fiction and still have never been bettered since, those being 'Alien' and 'Blade Runner', he's in a way a victim of his own success and high standards.

Since ‘Blade Runner‘, there has only been 'Gladiator' and ’Thelma and Louise’ that has come close to the standard that he set so early on, there have been allot of turkeys along the way and it's all the more frustrating knowing what he is capable of and the money that usually goes along with a Ridley Scott film.

I really hope he can pull it off as I would like to see a good adaptation of this book and perhaps the fact that he did 'Thelma and Louise' got him the nod on this film but if I could put anyone in the hot seat for directing this film it would of been Terence Mallick and that would go for the other Cormac McCarthy adaptation being made at the moment 'The Road' just looking at who is involved on that one doesn’t give me much hope but hope is what we have.

I'm not a Ridley Scott fan, though I can see why he is popular and I do admire his skill in creating a strong visual style. But, I did enjoy American Gangster, which seemed more constrained and disciplined than some Scott films (and I'm a sucker for Denzel).

I was hoping that Blood Meridian would go to Tommy Lee Jones after his excellent work on The Three Burials of Melquiades Estrada.
