name='Freddy']Now I know why Steve hates sport, especially football!!!!!

'Some people believe football is A Matter Of Life And Death.

I'm very disappointed with that attitude.

I can assure you it is much, much more important than that.'

    Bill Shankly

    regards

    Freddy

What could be more important than A Matter of Life and Death?

But in fact I grew bored with sport even before I discovered Powell & Pressburger. In fact I don't think I was ever excited by sport, even as a nipper. And Shankley's quote always has to be filtered out from searches for my favourite film

Neither was I Steve, I won't 'rant' about how I feel about todays Footy players, but movies such as 'Le Mans', 'Wimbledon' , even that one with Tom Hanks and Madonna about Baseball players and many more Sports movies are one big yawn.......even the World cup of a couple of years ago couldn't stir any interest.......I couldn't give two hoots who won or lost it!:

name='m35541']The ending of Blackadder Goes Forth was very sad.

Indeed, after the previous five episodes of hilarious comedy, the writers made their point quite well, and drove home how futile 'going over the top' was during a war where gaining territorial advantage was almost impossible.

'See you all in Berlin for coffee and cakes' was the morale every soldier needed prior to being slaughtered.

    Very sad.

I am not sure if I can name a single British Weepie.

But I get a lump if I watch Gallipoli when Mel Gibson and the Australian Light Horse are forced over the top to death by stupid English officers. I think the music is Adaggio (again).

Also the last scene of Cinema Paradiso (Ennio we love you!)

name='Freddy']but I think the common weepy for men is the american film, Field Of Dreams. Hits close to home for a lot of blokes.

    Freddy

There is a common misconception that this is a sports film ,it may have baseball as a sub- plot ,but is a fine father-son relationship film.

As a son that misses his Dad ,especially when you've done something you're really proud of and want to share. I get a lump in my throat the size of a hard boiled egg when Kevin costner says , " Hey Dad ,wanna play catch ? "

I remember back in the 80's when E.T. premiered in London they had invited a whole bunch of celebs to watch it, including Beryl Reid (Don't ask me why !).

After the film one of the reporters shoved a mike under Beryl's hooter and asked her if she had cried at the end. She said, "Oh no dear. I couldn't shed tears over a hoover attachment" Perfick.
