I remember crying my eyes out at The Day They Gave Babies Away, with Glynis Johns.

The 1956 film of A Town Like Alice.

First saw it on television in the 60s and remember the whole family being upset. It was the first time I'd seen my dad cry which made it even worse!

Bill died in 1994, but Virginia hasn't died recently - unless it was very quiet and nobody noticed which I would find hard to believe

That's often cited as the film guaranteed to get most people crying

The end of The Elephant Man made me cry lots when I first saw it. I would have been about 14, and it was the first time I ever heard Samuel Barber's Adagio for Strings.

Coincidentally, at school the very next day, our headmaster happened to be taking us for music, and he got out this big old-style gramophone. He said he was going to play a record and we were to say what we thought of it. It was of course the Adagio for Strings. I couldn't help but dissolve into tears, prompting lots of worried girls to fuss over me afterwards!

The Elephant Man, saw this in my twenties and cried but I think the common weepy for men is the american film, Field Of Dreams. Hits close to home for a lot of blokes.

Not me. Someone builds a sports stadium and some people come to play and to watch sports there? What's the big deal? I could understand him crying if nobody came

I watched Dead Man's Shoes for the first time tonight. Was alone which didn't help. Didn't cry but welled up/choked up at man's inhumanity to man.

I cry regularly at the best films. Sometimes because they're sad, sometimes because they make me so happy. It doesn't matter if I'm alone or not
