I've just recently become familiar with The Twilight Zone series from 1959 onwards. I'm struggling to come to terms with the fact that this superb series was made between 45-49 years ago. The story telling is impeccable, what an imagination Serling had.

Anyway, it prompted me to ask if anyone could recommend any other anthologies like The Twilight Zone, either British or American? I've done some searching and these are what i've come up with:

    Alfred Hitchcock Presents (1955-1962)

    One Step Beyond (1959-1961)

    The Twilight Zone (1959-1964)

    The Outer Limits (1963-1965)

    The Night Gallery (1970-1973)

Ghost Story a.k.a Circle of Fear (1972-1973)

    Darkroom (1981-1982)

Tales of Mystery & Imagination (1995)

    Out Of The Unknown (1965-1971)

    Journey Into The Unknown (1968)

    Shadows Of Fear (1970-1973)

    Thriller (1973-1976)

    Beasts (1976)

    The Mind Beyond (1976)

    Supernatural (1977)

    Tales Of The Unexpected (1979-1988)

    Hammer House of Horror (1980)

    West Country Tales (1982-1983)

    Shades of Darkness (1983-1986)

    Worlds Beyond (1986)

Chillers a.k.a Mistress of Suspense (1990)

    ITV Chiller (1995)

    BBC Ghosts (1995)

    Shockers (1999-2001)

    Can you think of anymore?

How about Hammer House of Mystery and Suspence? Good luck in trying to find a copy on DVD, particulary the second series at a reasonable price. I can't really think of anything else to add to your list. You've pretty much listed them all but of course I could be wrong. "The Twilight Zone" is indeed a superb series. Right from the opening theme music and Serling's imagination as he wrote a lot of the episodes himself. And to think it was made all those years ago. From your list though, I would recommend "Thriller" which I've just watched over the course of a few weeks. You can read the reviews here Amazon.co.uk: Thriller - The Complete Series (15 Disc Box Set): Robert Powell,Jeremy Brett,John Le Mesurier,Patrick Troughton,Helen Mirren,Diana Dors,Charles Gray,Denholm Elliott,Brian Blessed: DVD

Orson Welles did a series for Anglia tv, called,"Orson Welles Great Mysteries."

According to Leslie Haliwells Television Companion, Welles just introduced the show and did not appear in any of them.

There were a number of other anthology series in the fifties and sixties hosted by famous actors but these were more general drama show such as Douglas Fairbanks Junior Presents, The David Niven Show and Desilu Playhouse.

However I did see an episode of Dick Powell's Four Star Theatre on the Life Channel which was to all intents and purposes a thriller.

I have the first season of Alfred Hitchcock Presents on DVD, it has stood up farily well given the fact that it was made in 1955.

Interesting to see one untypical episode starring Barry Fitzgerald as an ex con who gets a job light das a department store Santa Claus, more of a light drama than a thriller.

Towards the end of the run of Hitchcock Presents the format changed to an hour, but these shows are not supposed to be as good as the half hours.

Youtube have some clips of the half hours and the longer format.

My dad always used to say .... 'the great mystery is, why were they called 'Great Mysteries?'

The series wasn't too bad, but Welles intros were the best thing about them.

Believe it or not, they are just begining to show The Twilight Zone here in the Philippines, better late than never, but it's at 3pm, why can't they show it at a decent time, midnight, to get you in the mood. I loved to watch those Serling classics late at night with so many unexpected twists and turns. Wonderful TV. Will never be bettered.

So sad that only two episodes survive I think

    Man with a Mission - S01E06 (Nov 3rd)

    Killing Time -S01E07 (Nov 10th)

Killing Time is quite excellent with a chilling performance by George Cole.
