name='batman']Duffy is great ... she gave a knockout performance on Jools Holland's programme a while ago.

She is a great singer. Rock Ferry is superb.

As she sounds nothing like Dusty Springfield, Duffy would need lessons to sing like her too. Duffy's sound is more Ronnie Spector with a hint of Lulu.

I'm cautiously excited about the casting of Nicole Kidman. A project like this would benefit from a huge Hollywood star attached to it.

Hopefully they'll use Dusty's recordings and won't be too downbeat.

By the way, to the poster who thought the Springfields had Australian connections, you might be thinking of the Seekers. Tom Springfield, Dusty's brother and band member, went on to write for the Seekers after the Springfields disbanded.

Australian actress Nicole Kidman is to star in a film based on the life of British singing icon Dusty Springfield.

Kidman will also produce the bio pic.

The film is said to be one of two films on Dusty's life currently being made in Hollywood.

I just hope Hollywood does not distort Dusty's story too much - as they are prone to do.

Shame a British studio could not have made a film on Dusty's eventful life first.

name='wadsy']Heard nothing here about kidman playing Dusty and Nicole's in the papers

    every day here!!

    Not until this morning!

At least with Nicole Kidman involved the production values should

be high, & she is a fine actress!!

name='Moor Larkin']Yeah but if she acts like a plank, it won't be much use will it?

It seems as if they're all ready going for a plank in getting Nicole Kidman in. Only heard a few tracks of Duffy's but she can, at least, sing. I think Kidman is more famous for her marriages than anything else. Lately been touted as box-office death!

You should watch her films instead of reading about her marraiges......

I'm happy for Duffy to do it, if she can, but I doubt she can.

I have and I don't. I've seen The Others, Cold Mountain, The Hours, and enough of Stepford Wives and, for my taste, wasn't impressed as I found her wooden. Nicole gets fairly frequent mentions on TV film news here as I'm sure you'd appreciate, but it does seem to be more about her private life than any serious review. I avoid celeb/gossip pages.

Don't know much about Duffy at all apart from what I've already stated. I assumed she was a stage school graduate but haven't looked in to it. Like you, happy for her to go for it. Seeing a photo and having heard her sing I'd say she'd be more suited than Kidman.

A few years ago there was a girl who won Stars In Their Eyes playing Dusty. She had her to a tee:the looks, the singing, everything. However, can she act?

I was looking at a colour photo of Dusty from 1965 yesterday and she looked very reminiscent of Nicole Kidman as Suzanne Stone, in the movie "To Die For", which I had watched the night before.

Dusty was a great singer - Some of your Lovin is my favourite.

Good question!........here's 60's Madeline with Dusty, Pat Rhodes (Dusty's loyal secretary) and Douggie Reece who was in Dusty's band The Echoes........

Pat and Madeline at this years Dusty day, auctioning one of Dusty's Blouses to raise funds for the Royal Marsden Hospital.......
