can you think of any film where you would like the ending made differnt, I howled watching the end of Madame X with Lana Turner when her ex husband didnt tell the lawyer son that it was his mum he was defending in court for murder.

I don't think giving away the endings to films is a good idea for a thread Donna ... I taped Madame X a while ago but haven't watched it yet ..... now I know how it ends!

There will be lots of films some of us haven't seen .... if anyone does want to follow this thread please use the spoilers function.

    Thanks.

    Jean de Florette

Before Jean gets the dynamite out, he comes across a lost Rambler whose O.S. Map indicates that the source is the up the hill a bit and to the right.

Please do not give away the endings of films!

Donna, there isn't a special section for this. The spoilers function is a tool much like the edit option.

    Don't worry on it.

I always like to know how a movie ends before I see it.

If I had known that Train of Life was just another Holocaust movie with an unhappy ending I would have saved my money and rented To Be Or Not To Be

In 'Casablanca' they weren't sure who Ilsa would choose at the end were they?

I'm fairly sure that's a myth based on Paul Henreid claiming in interviews that his contract said he had to get the girl, something Warner's legal department have no record of.

Unlikely that the Hollywood mores of the time would have had the wife leaving her husband for her lover. Interesting that there were four possible last lines between Rick and Renault suggested for the ending too.

I always think the ending of "The Italian Job" should be different. It just doesn't fit in with the rest of the film. Planning to such detail....... Just to appease the Establishment!

    FilmBuffuk,

I still think the ending to "The Italian Job" (original version) is excellent. A quite literal "cliffhanger". They don't get away with it and they don't get caught.

If they motored off into retirement would as many people remember the ending to this movie? It would have been a yawn by comparison. I even like the final line by Micheal Caine "I,ve got an idea" or words to that effect.....

Slightly OT, but when did people start to actually get away with crimes in caper movies?

A really stupid ending is the tacked on American one to Kind Hearts and Coronets.. Just in case anyone in the audience is too dim to get the point of the scene with the reporter, there's an extra bit
      Spoiler:
in which a warder rushes into the governor's office with Louis' memoirs

I think the "Kind Hearts and Coronets" ending is more appropriate, because it fits in with the rest of the film. However, I just don't feel that the ending of "The Italian Job" is as good as it might have been. After all the planning and the brilliant execution of the job, to succum to what was, after all, blatant stupidity and reclessness at the end, just doesn't work for me. It's a bit like the conclusion of "The Lavendar Hill Mob" and "The League of Gentlemen" and just makes it look rushed, in order to comply with the Establishment's dictum of "Crime doesn't pay" (or, at least, it shouldn't). However, this is fantasy; pure fiction, so why shouldn't crime pay in fiction? Can't we determine the difference? After all, some crimes appear to pay very well, particularly if you are part of the "Establishment" (allegedly)!
