One of about 800 short films from between 1900 and 1908 by the Sheffield-based company Mitchell and Kenyon, found forgotten in a basement ten or so years ago. The bfi have been releasing a thematic DVD compilation series, and there was a documentary series released before that...the latter is OK and makes a decent introduction, but the thematic series is pure gold....the films are in unbelieveable picture quality, and intensely moving and interesting...it brings the Edwardians right back to life.

Yes I love Mitchell and kenyon.

I really like this film, makes you feel as though you are really travelling on the tram down the street.

My favourite is a series taking you from Bristol's Floating Harbour, downriver under the Suspension Bridge and the Rocks Railway to Pill and Avonmouth, and shows the floating Reform School that was HMS Formidable(1825), with kids in the rigging...it didn't survive as well as some, but it's gorgeous....one of two series surviving from their trip to Bristol for AD Thomas in 1902.

Some nice footage and Stills of the 'White City' Exhibition of 1908 on BBC's Newsnight last evening. I believe you can watch it again on the web somewhere
