Default Best Comic Book Film

Based on the best comic thread but without the incredible expanse of literature by DB7. Is there a comic book come film that you think is the ruler?

Personally I was a huge fan of the original Batman film but now with CGI allowing special effects artists to have the same creative imagination as comic artist the possibilities of capturing the energy of those comics is getting closer. I would love if they made a proper version of Spawn or even Violator.

Well I haev to say that is news to me. I never knew this was based on a comic book. It seemed to me that it was based on Shogun Assasin (ninja with a baby) but I had no idea it came from a comic book.

I'm a big fan of Sin City. I think it translates really well into cinema. There is constant action and entertainment and visually stunning. Also because it is based on somewhat of a real world means that the reality of video doesn't look that off.

I have a love/hate relationship with these recent comic book movies; I LOVE Sin City, initially liked X-men but then became suddenly, inexplicably bored by them. Superman Returns was terrible, so drably, incohesively done, too. Then V For Vendetta came out, disowned by it's author Alan Moore, but actually very good, I thought. Fantastic four was initially very poor but close in tone to it's scource, and I hear the second one is an improvement. So funny that Britain doesn't have such heroes - the Avengers seems the closest thing to it, I think, or rather comic-bookness.

I thought the Warren Beatty DICK TRACY film was excellent. Great colorizations, great make-up - I thought its scenery did well to capture the essence of pulp comics of that era.

Have you seen it? As a stand alone movie it is poor, but as an adaptation it is criminal.

I didn't know Road to Perdition was based on a comic book, we are talking about the film with Tom Hanks and Paul Newman here aren't we? I thought the film was awful, I really didn't like it at all, I was extremely bored watching it and only the occasional rattle of gunfire in the film kept me from nodding off....my kind of comic book film would be Barbarella or the similarly styled Flash Gordon film from the eighties, ...Sin City is very good and visually stunning as is V for Vendetta. It would seem most of the Marvel and DC comic book heroes have been brought to the big screen, Flash, Daredevil, Fantastic Four, Iron Man, Hulk, etc etc all one big yawn as far as I can see! I thought there was a charming kind of crudeness to the effects in films like Barbarella and Flash Gordon, it somehow made them more real to me than the slick CGI generated Spiderman and so on that we have now, I personnaly find it very hard to engage with a CGI generated character.

Scooby Doo and the Loch Ness Monster .... the Boy Wonder's favourite Scooby adventure is a masterpiece of the art of animation.

Shogun Assassin was in turn based on the long-running manga series Lone Wolf and Cub. I've seen the volumes on sale in Forbidden Planet.

I have seen both films .... Judge Dredd is bloody awful but I managed to stay awake through it (probably the amount of noise in it) but Spawn sent me to sleep! No plot, no action, poor performances and effects .... dreadful. Perhaps my view is swayed by the fact that I never really liked the Dredd comic books so wasn't too upset by the awfulness of the film, whereas I quite enjoyed the Spawn ones so was disappointed.
