    Hi.

What films have you watched and thought at the end, what the .....was that all about ????????

For me its gotta be `Truly madly deeply`, ok I got the jist of it but I was either just too bored to take it in or just didnt know what it was trying to say.

    Maybe it was just me?

No - Truly, madly, deeply' is ripe for mickey taking I think. It could be reduced to thinking it is a film about necrophelia..it's odd..and yet, it did convey the depth of emotion felt when you lose a loved one - a partner in particular.

I think we were just desperate for love stories over here at the time.

I watched 'Sideways' for the second time the other day - on a recommendation..but, although I sort of get it ('men have it tuff too - they have to get married and stuff which is not really their ideal and the good looking ones have a better time - damnit!) - I really can't see what all the fuss is about..

To be honest I seem to get lost off on most James Bond films too. But then I`m sure that IS just me as most people think they are great!

I have never watched a James Bond film all the way through!

I tried really hard with Goldfinger last year - but..got lost..

I think some films are not equally appealing to the sexes and thats it..although my son did persuade me to watch the Rockys with him last year and with his guidance I did start to get 'it'.

Isn't it funny how differently we 'see' films .... TMD is my favourite romantic Britfilm and I have never ever associated it with necrophilia. It is a beautiful film about love, loss and the survival of the human spirit.

Alan Rickman was very good in it.

I did see that part of your post Modesty .... I was just commenting on the different things we all 'see' in films .... I wasn't having a dig at your comment.

Alan Rickman was very good in it, as was Michael Maloney.

The Fountain, with Hugh Jackman and Rachel Weisz, which was on Sky Movies last night.

    What was all that about?

    Brokeback Mountain.

Beautifully photographed, an interesting story about male friendship. I just couldn't see any reason for, or the point of "the act" which was more like a drunken rape than an act of love. I think it would have worked equally well without it - but would it have been as popular without the shock value and the publicity that generated?

    Interesting observation Steve.

My wife and most of my female friends thought it a very tragic and moving love story.

I think Ang Lee dealt really well with the sensitive issue of homosexuality in the sixties and the way the two men handled an often spirited relationship during their brief encounters. It was the progression of their relationship that was more appealing I think.

Yes, the progression of their relationship was very interesting. I just couldn't see how or why it started - apart from that drunken fumbling which is no basis for a lasting relationship as many of us can avow

The Spy Who Came In From the Cold, I must have sneezed the first time and just lost the plot. I've recorded it recently and hope I can get it this time, when I get round to watching it that is.

With you here - I find Bond highly tedious and a bit of a relic to be honest. Can't understand why they're still making them, or why they're so popular. Seems to the world at large as though they ARE the British film industry these days, but the basic idea of the boringly flawless hero with women endlessly falling at his feet I find completely dull.
