The fave has to the the Jack The ripper 'investigation' by DCI Barlow & DCI Watt from softly softly. in 1973
I remember this six parter very well. It was a huge talking point the nest day, and back in the days before video recorders, if something good was on the pubs would empty (lot of pubs didnt even have telys) and for a really popular show the streets would practically empty. Back in the day you knew if you missed it, you may never see it again, or maybe in a few years if you were lucky.
This made a big impression on me, and got me interested in the Ripper history and victorian/edwardian detectives in general. The joy i felt at finally getting my hands on a copy, last year was immense.!
PS: another favourite was the Michael Caine/Lewis Collins tv mini series many years later. Good stuff.
