    Hi.

I have a thing about old terraced houses and often go out taking black and white photographs of them wherever I can. I hate it that corronation street has changed so much with half of it modern housing now.

Does anyone know of any films where we see a lot of shots of terraced streets or houses? Sorry if this should be in the location section but thought it was more about film really.

    Thanks,

    xx

Saturday night, Sunday Morning. All filmed in the backstreets of Nottingham - some are still there.

    From memory,

‘Hobson’s Choice’, ‘Billy Liar’ and ‘How green was my valley’?

Of course, a number of artists have been inspired by terraced houses..Paul Klee, Lowry...

    Thanks MB.

Can anyone tell me the film with Tony Hanncock where he lived in a terraced and made a massive art statue? He had a landlady. I think he went to Paris half way through. It will be a very famous film and you will all know it, but I`ve never really gotten into Hanncock before, I just remember bits of the film.

    Thanks,

    FG xx

The Hancock film you are referring to is The Rebel released in 1960, with Irene Handel as his landlady Mrs Crevette., also stars George Sanders.

I would also point you in the direction of the other film he had a starring role in The Punch and Judy Man, it was never ciritcially acciaimed but I love it.

Hell is a City features an interesting scene with some terraced houses located on what appears to be a moor. Perhaps someone can identify the location, presumably around Manchester.

Vallance Road is still there, but I believe the row of houses in which the Krays lived ('Fort Vallance') was demolished some years ago. I know that the parents, Violet and Charlie Snr, were rehoused in a tower block in Bunhill Row.

Yes straff. The row of houses, which included theirs, is gone. The properties there were very old

    Fagin's Girl,

If you want to see virtually "as was" terraced streets, go to Bedwas, where the old coking plant used to be. Its between Newport, Gwent and Caerphilly in South Wales. I used it as a location some years ago, but it's still the same, or was, a month ago.

If you're ever in London , be sure to check out Roupell Street, up near the old London Weekend Television (South Bank) centre. It has a brilliant victorian terrace, and the pub on the street is decent too, if you fancy a pint...

Yes and cloth claps and people dying of rickets. Even though it is meant to be 1983.
