    Doing a search I came across this play to be staged in a small US (Wichita) theatre - OK, in truth I haven't seen it, but can anyone beat this?????!

    [I]Signature Theatre

    "Urinetown" (Sunday-Monday, June 21-22) --Darkly funny musical satire about greed, corruption, love and revolution in a world where water is scarce and big business owns all the toilets.

    Performances Saturday-Sunday (unless noted) in Scottish Rite Auditorium, 332 E. First St. Tickets: $8 at the door. Information: 316-263-4218.[/I
    ]

    [as the yanks call cinemas 'theatres' what do they call theatres then?]

    I've never seen it either but it ran for 800 performances on Broadway and it's a standard for amateur groups in the US and has a good reputation among musical theatre fans. Why would you assume it's rubbish?

    Re: "Urinetown." LOL I live in Kansas City so I could have have actually gone to this. (If only I'd known) lol

    Re: Theatre. In America, the theatre is still the theatre. But a theatre (aka movie theatre) is also the building where movies are shown. All depends on how you say it.

    "I went to the theatre." (prob implies a play)

    "I went and saw 'The Dark Knight' and the theatre floor was filthy." (obviously talking about a film)

    lol It's stupid, I know.

    I wonder if they include that old Rod Stewart favourite "Urine my heart"?

    Funny you should mention Cradle Will Rock, Captain Waggett.

    I just tracked down a copy of the LP with the late lamented Jerry Orbach.

    Not tunes I can torture the neighbours with (like when I drag out La Merm doingGypsy and then sing along) but a very interesting production.

    Awful plays reminds me of an episode of the underated us sitcom Car 54 Where Are You when the guys in the force were conned into seeing a dire play on broadway called Little Miss Pioneer because they had been conned into thinking that the play was raunchy when in truth it was as innocous as its title.
