Neither ..... to keep the British end up I go for Brighton Rock.
Is Good better than God ??....(I let your Jiminy Cricket answer to this !)
But as you can say those are two visions of Italo-American gangsters, I'd rather (far away) Goodfellas.
Those two are beautifuly done, but in my opinion, "The Godfather" mimes the society and "Goodfellas" criticizes it ( with a derisory morality ending), adding for the second, a great spoon of black humour...
Also"The Godfather" is a saga amongst generations (an opera as very much said, a shakespearian tragedy...) and "Goodfellas" is more "Rock n' Roll", one life, but what a life !!....
I must add that I'm most found on Scorcese films than Coppola's

I do not know this film...maybe it's the english tittle that doesn't "speak" to me , can you show the poster please Bat ??....
Moon.
Don't think I've seen this...great poster anyway, thanks.
For british gangsters, I know "The Criminal" by Joe Losey, which I like most.

No contest...The Godfather.....especially Part Two.
Goodfellas was like The Godfather's gimpy, spotty cousin with Tourette's Syndrome.
I LOVE Brighton Rock - Dickie is fabulous in it.![]()
Goodfellas or Godfather ?
For me it's Goodfellas every time. I think it's one of the best films Scorsese ever made. Although I find The Godfather interesting it's too distant from how those things affect ordinary people. Goodfellas shows that.

Good call, Steve.
[prepares to be flamed]The Godfather was the most overrated, overblown movie I've had the ass-numbing pleasure of sitting through. Goodfellas remains one of the best gangster films I've seen. Add Casino to that and you have a mind-blowing nights viewing.
Scorsese's knack of getting stellar performances from lesser names is superb and apparently a new Scorsese/De Niro film about Jimmy Hoffa is casting now.

neither for me as well .the first half of performance has the power to shock and show the nasty side of organised crime way more than any hollywood tripe [ if pushed i would choose goodfellas ,ive never liked or understood the godfather ]
The Godfather is one of my all time favourite films, and I was only introduced to Goodfellas last year. They are both terrific films, but as Copolla's epic is about the higher heirarchy of the Mafia, and Scorsese's is about the foot soldiers,I don't compare them. They are just two masterpieces in their own right.

Can't decide. Both are classics.
Absolutely 100% The Godfather for me.
I like Goodfellas but IMHO it isn't in the same league.
Whatever their respective merits, surely the "How Funny? scene and the " tour de force" by Joe Pesci in Goodfellas is one of the greatest bits of film acting ever?
Frightened ME to death and I wasn't even there!
Both are wonderful films, but it has to be The Godfather that gets my vote.
Has to be The Godfather. Goodfellas is a good film but I really wouldn't be bothered about seeing it again, whereas I can watch The Godfather again and again.
The way this film is done is really original....off comentaries by Henry Hill, flash backs on his youth, his irish and italian roots (TNT blend!), frozen images (used as "so, that's what happened folks !"), period musical pieces (Got the CD, I particulary enjoy "Beyond the Sea"). I must precise that on my first post about this, when saying "criticizes", it's not what I intended to mean...
But "Goodfellas"doesn't "glorify" mobs way of life, as it could appear...
Speaking about its ironic ending: poor Henry who will have to live the rest of his (short?)life in an anonymous american suburb with FBI agents !!...
It's also a real violent film. Violence "shown" in its all crualty, no compleasance ! (Joe Pesci is almost same character than in "Casino", being a little bit hard with actor Michael Imperioli, who soon will be Christopher in "The Sopranos").
Yes, two different degrees in Mafia organisation, between the God and the Good...
But Marty is the best, it's a real classical for me ....
AND, (for the touch of englishness) in the bonus of "Taxi Driver", he comments scenes with quotations about Michael Powell's heritage, the way he influenced him. Really, a good fellow he is !!....

I'm with Connoisseur on Pesci - and Goodfellas sneaks a very tight race.
