The Day the Clown Cried - by Jerry Lewis
Although why he'd want to sheild the world from a film about a clown who leads children to the gas chamber in Auschwitz is a mystery.

the thread about the upcoming british sex films reminds me of the story of "games that lovers play " which stars joanna lumley ,who has [ if reports are right ] used her influence since she became a star to keep the film hidden away . a load of fuss about nothing if you ask me ,ive got a dvdr of it ,its a load of rubbish and you hardly see anything anywayits no naughtier than one of the later carry on films .i think she made a mistake for acting that way about it because it made the film out to be something much raunchier than it actually was .any film that also stars mr brown the next door neighbour from sykes cannot be raunchy ! has there been other films that have been hidden away over the years by the stars /producers /directors for various reasons , or films which they refuse to acknolwedge ?

I know there are some early commercials and magazine ads stars did before and even when they were famous that they'd love to forget!name='davidb']the thread about the upcoming british sex films reminds me of the story of "games that lovers play " which stars joanna lumley ,who has [ if reports are right ] used her influence since she became a star to keep the film hidden away . a load of fuss about nothing if you ask me ,ive got a dvdr of it ,its a load of rubbish and you hardly see anything anywayits no naughtier than one of the later carry on films .i think she made a mistake for acting that way about it because it made the film out to be something much raunchier than it actually was .any film that also stars mr brown the next door neighbour from sykes cannot be raunchy ! has there been other films that have been hidden away over the years by the stars /producers /directors for various reasons , or films which they refuse to acknolwedge ?
I can see why.

Games That Lovers Play has been on TV a few times. It is awful.

I heard the film is stuck in international film litigation and the few who have seen it, say it's a horribly made film.
I was surprised to read that Bobby Darin was one of the few offered the title role but he wisely turned it down.
I know not quite within the terms of this thread, there was an early 70s spoof of King Kong which was never screened because of litigation.

that sounds like fun ! i wonder why thats been locked away ?
In the interviews I've read, Stanley Kubrick made it pretty clear he never wanted to see his first film "Fear and Desire" released. I've seen a bootleg of it and actually it's not that bad imo. Certainly has some interesting ideas about war, duality, etc.
anouska hempel has went to great lengths over the years to surpress " tiffanny jones " another fuss about nothing i think ! not one of pete walkers best films and despite being a beautiful woman none of her sexiness comes through on screen . another one where the less said about it would have been better ,rather than making a fuss and giving people the idea its a great deal saucier than it actually was

Morons From Outer Space? I saw that at the Odeon, Leeds when it was released in the 1980s. All the best gags were in the trailer.
I remember seeing The Breaking of Bumbo at a week-long event called Cinema City at the Roundhouse, London, in about 1970. The film was introduced by its director. Also there that week, amongst lots of other screenings and goings-on,Peter Sellers and Spike Milligan being interviewed by Tony Bilbow...(or one of that Late Show lot). Does anyone else remember this extravaganza ?
Elaine Paige tried to have her name removed from the posters for ADVENTURES OF A TAXI DRIVER, which was released just after she was awarded the starring role in Evita in the West End......
Rod Stewart tried to buy the rights to "The Wicker Man" in the 70s while he was shacking up with Britt Ekland, she wanted the film buried for some reason!
Kubrick withdrew "A Clockwork Orange" from public view in the Uk at least, after copycat violence supposedly inspired by the film hit the headlines, that film was unseen in the Uk for a long time and I think only surfaced again after Kubricks death.
And the most famous film of all " Citizen Kane" almost came a cropper, real life powerful newspaper magnate William Randolph Hearst was so incensed with what he saw as an unflattering depiction of himself and his own life in the film that he put extreme pressure on RKO to have the film withdrawn and the negative burned! He threatened RKO with bad reviews for all their films in his newspapers and publications and refused them advertising space amongst other things, thankfully RKO did not cave in but accounts at the time showed that Hearst came close to having his way such was his power and influence.
More on Kubrick. While Stanley was still with us (in person), there was a retrospective of his work and he personally persuaded the presenters not to show one of his early films. Can't remember which one though.
The majority of actors/actresses who appeared in those awful Confessions of a... in the 1970's try to avoid any mention of their participation 30 years later.![]()
Oops !
The Elaine Paige film was
THE ADVENTURES OF A PLUMBER'S MATE:
Adventures of a Plumber's Mate (1978) - Full cast and crew
Anyone remember what the mysterious 'rights issues' that led to so many Hitchcock films being unseen in Britain for decades were ? I remember the Scala showing 'rare Hitchcock films starring Kim Novak and James Stewart' which they couldn't name. The Trouble with Harry was similarly affected along with the 1934 Man Who Knew Knew Much.

I would imagine Black Snake (1973) as well.
