I watched The taking of Pelham One Two Three made in 1974 the other night and thoroughly enjoyed it. Today I read that they are making another remake! this time around its (the taking of Pelham one two three) Apparently Denzel Washington and Travolta are the big guns in it. I can take Washington he is a brilliant actor but Travolta just ruins every picture he’s in as far as I‘m concerned. This is one I will not be watching. I can see it now, ham acting from Travolta and over use of CGI and explosions every 30 seconds and a predictable ending. Travolta might even put on his pilot suit and do a fly by as the final credits roll..

I live in NYC and take the subway daily. A remake would lack much of the grit/ambience that makes the original so authentic - still I'm not taking into account the new plot - terrorists (yawn) and the special effects potential. mark my words it will be crap and it will make money and thus a done deal !

It's actually the second remake - a 1998 television movie version has Edward James Olmos in the Matthau role and Vincent D'Onofrio replacing Shaw.

The D'Onofrio remake is quite good. Good performances, solid casting.

I think casting Washington/Travolta would be a HUGE mistake. Neither are particularly strong actors. In fact they're both quite dreadful as actors. But then modern cinema isn't about 'acting' is it? It's about 'stars'.

    Ugh.

Yup, about the only swear word in the original is the Hooker saying 'Shit' coz she can't make her 'appointment', but even Shit shocked in the mid-70's!
