I know it's not "Brit" but there's enough Off-Topic Discussion here, to suffer this one. Went to Lincoln Center Walter Reade Theater (RE!!) today with my 16 year old son and saw Raoul Walsh's "The Roaring Twenties" - a nice print it was too. Lots of snappy dialogue and a story that could almost be set in these times - we both really enjoyed it. Well worth e re-visit for anyone that hasn't seen it in some time.

    It's a superb film .... one of Cagney's best!

All it lacks is a Russian gangster.

But it's got lots of showtunes - they're far better than Russian gangsters!

Captain Waggett and Batman, perhaps someone will remake it as a Russian Gangster Musical ?

On a trip to Hollywood with the BFI in 1983 we visited the Burbank(formerly Warner Studios). We visited the standing set ,used in hundreds of films since, where Cagney met his end.I took a small sliver from the set and i still have it in an envelope in a draw!To me probably the greatest Warners gangster film ever mad.To hear the heavenly choir singing "Melancholy Baby" at the end still makes my hair stand up.Also the final line "He used to be a bigshot" has surely got to be one of the greatest final lines of all.
