The African Queen - Shepperton.
i was working for a supermarket the other day whose motto is " very little helps " .anyway theyve got a shop right next to elstree studios and round the back where the wagons turn you can see the "george lucas stage ". i understand hes an american director isnt he ? it got me thinking ,what films that are at first glance hollywood ,have actually been filmed at least in part here in blighty ? this is a chance to surprise our friends from across the pond and sing the praises of the british crews who otherwise dont get a mention .

I think the term "hollywood" has come to mean a description of a style or genre, of course Hollywood is where the studios started in the 1900s, but are there many films that are still "made in hollywood" as it were? Most films are set on location or against a green screen in Australia or Eastern Europe....or the UK! I guess there are countless "hollywood" productions that have been made in the UK, the first "Star Wars" films spring to mind as do the first Indiana Jones films, Gotham city was recreated at Pinewood for the first big screen "Batman" with Michael Keating. Kubrick recreated the streets of New York at Elstree and on the streets of London for "Eyes Wide Shut"![]()
there was saving private ryan as well .hatfield business park![]()
Death Wish 3 was shot in Brixton.
