There are one line quotes that will live forever, long after the film has been forgotten.

Mae West's writers did well with 'Come up and see me some time'

and the naughty 'Is that a gun in your pocket or are you pleased to see me'

Gone with the wind's famous exit 'Frankly my dear I don't give a dam'

and Woody Allen's Sleeper 'If I don't get my regular 600 years I wake up very grouchy'

Talking of grouchy the Marx Brothers films must be full of them but I can not think of one to list here at this moment.

'Top of the world Ma' another famous exit and I will use that as mine. Are there any more favourites that are often quoted or are stuck in your mind?

"Some illiterate, unthinkable idiot will come up: - Would you have a drink, Mr Burton ?- Facetiously, I reply that I'd like a martini because you can't get them in Wales. And immediately, an entire column is built on the fact that there are no martinis in Wales."

I believe the quote is "Why don't you come on up and see me sometime.. when I've got nothin' on but the radio."

Well if you're looking at Mae West ...

"Goodness had nothing to do with it, dearie."

Response to an exclamation, "Goodness! What lovely diamonds!" in Night After Night (1932). She later used Goodness had nothing to do with it as the title of her autobiography (1953).

"Why don't you come up sometime and see me? ... Come on up, I'll tell your fortune."

    She Done Him Wrong (1933)

"Is that a gun in your pocket, or are you just happy to see me?"

    She Done Him Wrong (1933)

    "Beulah, Peel me a grape."

    I'm No Angel (1933)

"I only like two kinds of men, domestic and imported."

    I'm No Angel (1933)

"When I'm good, I'm very good. When I'm bad, I'm better."

    I'm No Angel (1933)

"I used to be Snow White, but I drifted."

    I'm No Angel (1933)

"When caught between two evils, I generally like to take the one I never tried."

    Klondike Annie (1936)

"A man in the house is worth two in the street."

    Belle of the Nineties (1934)

"It's not the men in your life that matters, it's the life in your men"

    I'm No Angel (1933)

"When women go wrong, men go right after them."

    She Done Him Wrong (1933)

"One and one is two; two and two is four; and five will get you ten if you work it right!"

    My Little Chickadee

"I feel like a million tonight. But one at a time."

    Myra Breckinridge (1970)

"To a young actor: How tall are you without your horse? Six foot, seven inches. Never mind the six feet. Let's talk about the seven inches!"

    Myra Breckinridge (1970)

"I'm the kinda girl who works for Paramount by day, and Fox all night"

    Sextette (1978)

To her British lover about to climb in bed with 80-something Mae: She said that she hoped soon to be able to say what Paul Revere said - 'The British are coming'. This was the last one-liner Mae ever uttered on film.

    Sextette (1978)

Probably one of the most famous non-verbal one liners. Jimmy 'Schnozzle' Durante after his car crash in "It's a Mad, Mad, Mad, Mad World". Lying with every bone in his body broken, his last nervous reaction is to kick out his foot and boots a bucket down the hill.

Travis Bickle's "You talkin' to me ?' which I've been told was a De Niro improv/ad lid and not in Paul Schrader's "Taxi Driver" script.

Yes, but remember that when a film-maker talks about an improvised scene it's not like improvising scenes on stage, they don't mean that they just did it on the spur of the moment. It wasn't in the original script but it was something that De Niro and Scorsese worked out and rehearsed. If a film actor does something unexpected the camera will probably lose focus on them if not lose them totally in the frame
