(I apologize if this topic has already been done) What are your favorite films about tough-as-nails military drill sergeants trying to whip raw recruits into shape?

A few of mine (sorry, don't really know any British ones):

"Full Metal Jacket" (the first half on Paris Island with R. Lee Ermey is terrific)

"An Officer and a Gentleman" (Louis Gossett Jr is great in this)

"The D.I." (Jack Webb's commanding performance saves an otherwise forgettable film)

"Tribes" (excellent tv movie set in the Vietnam era about the clash of cultures between Darren McGavin's marine sergeant and a hippie recruit played by young Jan Michael Vincent)

"Stripes" (Bill Murray's nemesis Sgt. Hulka is played by Warren Oates, one of my favorite character actors)

The Gentle Sex has some square bashing for the ATS recruits. Lovely scene of Joan Greenwood marching off in completely the wrong direction.

The end of Dunkirk has John Mills and Robert Urquhart getting an earful from Patrick Allen.

Not exactly square bashing, but there's an interesting scene of military bullying in the Werner Herzog film Woyzeck.

Parade duty features in Beau Geste, too.

It's an odd film. It doesn't always hang well together, but I can't take my eyes off it when its on.
