I have a Sony 160 GB HD recorder, and you have to make sure it's set for 'high speed dubbing'.
Can someone can tell me if i'm doing something wrong with my Sony HDD/DVD recorder.
I have owned 2 lite-on machines but the second one finally packed in before christmas. Well i had been a good girl all year and santa very generously bought me a Sony RDRDC205B to replace it. So far the unit has been great however, here comes the question... With the lite on you picked the mode you wanted SP/LP etc and recorded the program to the HDD if you then wanted to keep it you just pressed the copy button and it was transferred on a DVD a 2hour film would take approx 10mins to burn.....now with the Sony one if i try to do the same thing it has to play the entire film to burn it so we are talking about over 2 hours for the whole process
Am i doing something wrong is there anyway of getting it do what the liteon did and burn the title in less time or does it have to go through this rigmarole every time?

This one caught me out at first when I bought a Sony machine. The critical issue is that if your HDD defaults to recording in HQ+ rather than HQ on the hard drive, then high speed dubbing is not available. (HQ+ is only available for HDD recording, not for DVDs.) The problem is that on the menus HQ+ shows as plain HQ, which is misleading. Somewhere in initial setup you can alter this. HQ gives marginally lesser quality, but not actually noticable in any way.
