Have you tried formatting the disc as soon as you put it in the machine?
Hi,
Can anyone help please with advice about fixing my Panasonic DMR-E75V ?
Plays all dvds OK but will only record -R discs. Will not record RAM discs or Format RAM or erase existing RAM recording. When attempting recording goes into self check mode for 35 seconds and then says disc unformatted or similar.
Thx.
Ron.

I'll try that but i fear that the problem is likely to be a faulty reugulator working at a temperature beyond its tolerance which often occurs after 2 or 3 years according to another website:
i have 2 panasonic recorders and ive never seen this problem
what make of discs are u useing ??

I followed the tip of cleaning the rubber pad with isopropyl alcohol and now I can get DVDs to record correctly. I was finding that recording in XP mode was only allowing 48 minutes to be recorded, and then when I tried to give the disc a title, the player would re-boot. Trying to finalise was also impossible.
A quick fix that works well and means I don't have to go looking for a replacement.

the only time ive seen that happened is when ive recorded on a - r and then erase the show on the disc
Thanks very much DVDMAN and colleagues - i think i shall contact the Stevenage Expert. FYI i used Panasonic RAM disks for some years and recently started recording on a variety of -R for permanent recordings. Used a variety of makes but problem first happened with a RAM disk and is now causing errors when using Memorex -R. Can't finalize now. Did not realise best not to hold any disk using the centre hole. This information sadly lacking from the Panasonic manual which shows unsuitable method of holding disks.

Why ever not?
Many Thanks again to you all for your interest and advice, with special thanks to Fluddite, Andy on Ebay, and dvdman.
I took the unit apart at the weekend and thoroughly cleaned the insides. It was very dusty. Took about an hour in total. The DVD now functions perfectly and makes no noise when formatting. Another machine saved from the junk bin.

P.S Taffy, Max Miller would know why.....
