Dvd Editing Software

I hope this is the correct section for this subject?

can anyone recommend a good dvd editing software program for someone who is the equivalent of frank spencer when it comes to technology? Basically, i'd like to thumbnail episodes so they are able to be selected separately (some discs i have are not chaptered) and be able to design a title screen ( i have artistic ability but basic

Cheers! I'll have a look at that! I'm not particularly bothered about the cost as long as it's reasonable,the main thing is it being user friendly-i can't emphasise enough my naiveity in this realm!

Yes some programs are a real joy to use while other a total pain!!

Nero does a great job of this Jay. Here's an example of one I made yesterday:







It's about the most intuitive and user friendly software I've come across and has multiple options for customisation including thumbnail size, layout, button surrounds, interaction colours for highlight and selection and full video/still picture thumbnail choices.



Nero 7 is about the most stable and easist to learn from scratch so I'd recommend that.

The most important part IMO is the background for your project. Google Images is great for finding premade 800 X 600 images. Tinkering with them in Paint or something similar to remove the bits of the picture you don't need is a great way to customise your image. Googlimg "Wallpaper" gets you great backgrounds too.



Add your bg first then drag and drop everything else (Titles, buttons, subheader) to where it looks best. You can always give me a shout if you want to do something but can't work out how.

That’s very impressive Googlebox. How long does it take to convert two movies, assuming you can get off with putting two one disc? I use Convert X2DVD it’s good but fails in the menu department they are fixed. Many have requested a menu editor but no joy..

I often make Double Bills and can compress up to 6 hours of video to fit on a standard single layer DVD without the quality dropping too much.



3 hours maximum gives the best results and I tend to make my own custom menu using crops of 2 related images.



Converting and burning takes about 40 minutes on my sytem, it's custom built for video editing and quite nippy. The downside is that in order to maintain speeds like that you really have to format every three months or so. I keep the software on one HDD and format then reinstall to another.

I've only had this for a couple of weeks but have found it easy to use, allowing either whole or part of a dvd to be converted to most of the common video file formats. One useful feature is a "picture crop" function which can easily be used to edit out the "picture fuzz" that used to be presernt at the bottom of a VHS video, especially early NTSC ones.



For PAL videos/dvds a frame rate of "25" should be selected, and the "deinterlacing dunction" removes any jerkiness from fast moving scenes if present. Other functions include varying the video bit rate to a maximum of 4000kb/s.



Having converted a dvd or video to a file, I then load it into "ConvertXto dvd", another easy program to use which I find gives excellent results.
