Hi,
If you wish to record one freeview channel whilst watching another, you need to either have a machine with a built in 'twin tuner', (yours doesn't) or with 'single freeview tuner' machines you need to connect your machine to a freeview set top box via a scart switcher....

If you still have an aerial then you can watch broadcast programmes (while they remain) while you are recording on Freeview (or cable or satellite).

Yes thats right you need dual digital tuners since in the analogue days you would set your VCR analogue tuner to the channel you wished it to record then watch another channel on your TV analogue tuner. Since the analogue switch over has started you would now need a TV with an in build Digital tunner or two external ones!

I have never seen a machine with a built in 'twin tuner' before aaron, can you tell more about these?

Hi, It's something you will see much more of over the next year or two.
At the moment, the only readily available twin DVB tuner machines, are 'PVRs' (hard drive only recorders). The additional bonus with these machines, is the ability to record two channels simultaneously. See here

This will also be possible with a dvd recorder with hard drive and twin DVB tuners, but manufacturers have been 'holding back' on this established technology for the usual marketing reasons.
When the analogue switchoff becomes imminent, these 'all in one' machines will doubtless become ubiquitous.....
