Panasonic SC-BT100 upgrade

My Panasonic bluray player hasn't been playing some special features recently and I discovered the firmware is an early version 1.1 (notwithstanding the machine's only about a year old!). The latest version is 1.7 and I duly followed the upgrade instructions on the Panasonic website by creating a CD-R with the latest version on it and then I attempted to download it onto the player. This process is supposed to take up to 45 minutes to be completed, but although the downloading starts, after about 5 or 10 seconds the disc ejects and no upgrade is achieved.

I've tried this a couple of times with no success. Has anyone had similar problems and know the way around this short of having to buy another player?

Do you have an internet port in your machine?

I(f so just attach an ethernet cable to your router/internet hub and the upgrade should run automatically.

Many special features on BluRay discs require the machine to be connected to the web as the machine must access online content.
