I just bought myself the complete M.R.James Ghost story collection off ebay for the

princely sum of $16 (Yippee!) Unfortunately the dvd case on one of the collection is locked.

How do I unlock it without damaging the case?

What sort of lock? If it's the sort shops and libraries use to thwart thieves, you could always try taking it into a shop and seeing if they can open it.

I agree with the Cap'n. I have the same set and if it's the long, white plastic strip locks inside the case, I can't even get them to move with the case open so that I can see how they work and try to help. When closed all you can see/access in the lock/unlock symbol, so I think you will be out of luck trying to do it yourself. Sorry.

Yes it's strange. This is a 5 disc set but only one has the red locked symbol in place, the other 4 show a green lock.

Still I shouldn't complain I got quite a bargain I think. I'll open it somehow! Thanks anyway!!

That sounds like the sort of lock we use at work. So a library might well be able to help.

Might be an idea to take the sellers receipt(or PAYPAL) to prove ownership?
    Good luck Wadsy!

I opened it! It's amazing what a bread knife & a some elastoplast can do!

I cut open the side of the case & removed the dvd then I inserted the cover into another case!

Worked a treat (I managed to stem most of the bleeding) & I got to watch "Whistle & I'll Come To You"!

I remember a few years ago I bought Mr FG an Eric Clapton box set, and when he opened it on Christmas day there were no DVDs in it . I can`t remember now where it was from, it wasn`t a big name shop like HMV, it was a shop in Durham. Durham is quite a bus ride away from me to go and collect the missing DVDs, I was really mithed that they made no effort to compensate our disappointment, even an apology would have been nice.
