I have the equipment to capture VHS material to my PC... but when I do it in Windows Movie Maker, it saves as a WMV. I then used TMGPEnc DVD Author to edit the stuff. However, WMV files take up far more room than MPEG's. So I'm now wondering what the best program to save captured footage as an MPEG is. Advice please?

Xilisoft Video Converter is a good program - converted everything - or DivX Codec 6.8. - converted only in AVI. On the homepage of the maker there is as download and has a 15-day free trial of the DivX Pro Codec.
VirtualDub is free. But converted only in AVI. Joins also video files together. I hope, I could help you. |

Ulead Video Studio 8 or up is a great program for capturing live in mpeg2. The quality is as good as any dvd recorder. It can also capture in ntsc with no problems.
It's also best to capture in 352 x 576 frame size (as opposed to 720 x 576). It will still play on your dvd player and you'll get far fewer dropped frames and other problems. You'll find this option under 'Customize' in the Video And Audio Property Settings. |
