Default Pansonic dvd recorder problem: DMR-E55

Was fine last night - recorded something overnight.

Panasonic DMR-E55 has just stopped reading discs - all types: ram-disc, commercial copies, own recordings, lens cleaning disc.

Any ideas?

Could this be the dreaded power problem that killed mine recently I wonder? Here is a link to a DIY fix:

Panasonic DMR E55 Keeps Switching Off - Page 2 - AVForums

I took the easier option and replaced it with one of the last DMR-EZ25 models, on sale before they changed models yet again.

Thanks, Harbottle

That seems to b exactly what is happening as it had been switching itself off at odd times in the last week or so.

Looks like some retail therapy may need to be applied.

Chaps, this happened to mine as well, it's a well known fault as described in harbottle's link, it's so easy to fix, it cost about £15 with the post, mine has been right as rain since i fixed it , for about the last 4 months, it's just a power supply component fault.

cheers Ollie.

After reading many positive reviews I've just purchased a Panasonic DMR-EX77. It seems to be very good although the User Manual is something of a challenge! I've not yet tried burning any DVDs, so I shall be watching this thread with interest...

Not Really, the only tricky thing i found was removing the old ic,which is easy to identify, the power supply section unscrews/unplugs, and is taken away from the machine,as you can imagine i hav'nt got the steadiest of hands Btw i have read of people snapping up non working e-55's on evil bay, changing the ic and then moving them on.

cheers Ollie
