Toshiba RDX 47

I have just purchased this 3 in 1 machine.It has HDD,VHS and DVD>My Panasonic is starting to have problems even though i have only used it for 2 years.The VHS side has been giving me problems.The DVD side has not always been reliable.Anyway i would like a bit of technical help.I have downloaded items from British Pathe news on to CDs.I have never been able to play these back on my Panasonic.It comes up as a unfinalised disc.I put it on the Toshiba.I was able to find the list of files but when i asked the machine to playback the file the screen went blank and the red circle with a line through it came up in the top right hand corner.Can this be solved so i can view these files or can i only play them on my computer?

CD or DVD? Just checking.

Why not re-copy them and finalse the disc on the compter?

Or. Finalise the existing disc on the PC using Nero?

Thanks for the info.What is Nero.I would love to finalsie the disc but cannot see how i can on the computer.
