Default LCD Projectors, anyone?

Fed up with telly - I'm keen on the idea of watching old black & whites on a really big screen. If I connect one of these LCD projectors to my laptop, do you reckon it would project okay onto a large white screen? My pal reckons this set-up might not work well, as he thinks the LCD element may not react 'fast enough' for moving images, as opposed to a more static computer-screen display. Can't see that argument myself. Surely, it's just like an LCD, only on a bigger scale - and the speed of light is pretty instant! Anyone watch films in this way? I could even have a projector-whirr sound effect in the background, smoke a Woodbine and slurp a Kia-Ora too!

I have a projector...I bought the cheapest I could find at the time, an Epson, and am very happy with the picture quality, but unfortunately what I didn't know at the time was that it doesn't have a sealed lens so it keeps getting dust blobs. If you're in a dust-free environment I guess you might fare better but I would say if you decide to get a projector get one with a sealed lens.

Whether you'd want a projector instead of a TV I'm not so sure, but I'd certainly recommend getting one for watching films if you have the right viewing conditions eg. you need to have a room you can black out, be able to sit a certain distance from the screen etc.
