Not being fully au fait with DVD recorders and wishing to buy one very soon, I wondered if any of you good people can give some advice?Firstly,is it possible to transfer VHS to DVD via a line in or something?Secondly,can you make recordings from a seperate DVD source?i.e.make a copy of a DVD from another DVD player via again,by line in.Thirdly(and lastly)do DVD recorders come in all region format?Now that said,is it an infringement of copyright to copy a DVD and SWAP it with a DVD from someone else with no renumeration? The reason I ask this(naively)is I have a collection of around 300 films on VHS which I would like to transfer to DVD and would quite happily swap titles(when finally catalogued!) with members if it were helpful.Thanks in advance for any help forthcoming. :)

Hi Decks,

Per the DVD question. It is poss to burn DVDs, as they are another form of digital CDs. Although, you will need to find a DVD burner.

I have not purchased DVDs in the UK, but have CDs and they work perfectly fine on US systems, so I reckon that they will work well for you on DVD, in reverse. Someone may be better informed.

Since you did ask; yes, making DVDs for others would cross the copyright infringement line. Having moved from the LP format to digital CD/DVD has presented a problem for the movie/music industry and this is what is discussed in a few of the links above.

You might want to check public libraries in the city, as many may have DVDs/CDs to sign out for several weeks. My city's libraries have so many DVDs and CDs, they encourage people to take a dozen or more at the same time, for a three week period.
