Does anyone know how to convert AVI to DVD? or can you just record the AVI footage onto DVD disc to play in the DVD player?

Hi Monsterscud, maybe this will help.

Converting the AVI format to crystal clear DVD format is now a piece of cake. There are several free and commercial pieces of software available that makes the conversion of AVI to DVD format quick and easy. You can use video converting software such as ConvertXtoDVD to make your AVI files DVD compatible; the software is available for free, but the free version has a transparent company logo in the background. After buying the software, the watermark vanishes.

If your DVD player is DivX compatible you only have to copy the avi files to a DVD-R/RW etc.

I have tried a few different file conversion progs and the best in my experience is TmpGenc 4.0 Xpress.

Also if you have one of the new style DVD players that can play A.V.I Divx /Xvid contained files with the correct codec reader then you can connect this to a DVD recorder through a scart lead and then make a recording to the Hard drive and then burn to a DVD-R or DVD+R that will be in Mpeg-2. This may sound slow and long winded compared to using one of the many computer based converting programs available however the above method will reduce on screen artefacting that does occur while using these that is most visible on the blacks!

WinAVI Video Converter is one of best on the market as it achieves the best results. The key to it working successfully is to have all the codecs updated. It is worth every penny.

AVI files are not the best quality - they are very heavily compressed so the results will be variable to say the least. I take it you're referring to a download of some sort.
The simplest way to burn to DVD is via Toast.

Yes the AVI files are downloads. I am not too bothered about the quality at the moment. I'll bare the Toast programme in mind, thank you. I must admit I haven't had chance to try any of the programmes out yet, I think I will have to go for what ever is the easiest.

You can buy cheap dvd players that allow you to watch avi (divx) or wmv off of a usb stick.

Philips make one, which is also a cinch to set region free. Costs about 35 quid.

I couldn't agree more. I've tried all the others, this does the job with great quality and minimum fuss.

I'd go for the 2. versions though rather than the 3. but if you're using avi files, I'm guessing that that should't be a problem.
