High Definition and the 32in TV

Still wondering if HD (Blue ray etc) is worth a look for the smaller TV sets.
Upscaling does pretty nicely, and I've read a few articles that say you
won't notice the difference. What's the experience of Brit Forum members?
I also read a review of the Blu Ray 'Clockwork Orange' which was negative
with regard to grain as a result of HD upgrading, so given my preference
for older films, is this a typical outcome I could expect, as well?

At the risk of repeating myself : Blu-Ray is the last disc system there will be - the question is how long will it be before downloading and hard drives take over. I suspect not very long and the manufacturers know this fine well. I'm sitting on my hands with upscaling at the moment and from my own experiences the hike up in quality is not as great as say VHS to good DVD. 1TB + hardrives are already out there and downloading is already going on. It just seems a non-event to me.

32" LCDs are not 1080p but are often compatible with it and you have to go to 37" before any of the manufacturers are making them 1080p. You are probably doing as well as you can at the moment.

I have a Philips home cinema DVD system which "upscales" to my 32 inch Sony. I'm quite pleased with it and have no intention to go with Blue-ray for the moment. I think you'd really have to look hard to see the difference between an upscaled DVD and a Blue-ray one so I wouldn't fall for the hype. Blue-ray will be the last disc system as in the future it will be digital downloads although that will be dependent on BT giving us FASTER broadband.

Beware. If buying a TV that is advertised as being suitable for HD: only those with a vertical resolution of 1080 are truly "HD ready" - currently only a small number qualify.

Yes I'm crying as well.Nevertheless digital downloads are the future, no doubt about it. This won't happen for a few years yet, probably for not even another 5 years but the Broadband infrastucture needs to be hughly improved and that will require BT who is still the main operator to deliver. I haven't stepped inside an HMV/Virgin store in years. Why would you have Amazon, Sendit, Play.com and let's not forget the various torrent sites and the binary newsgroups?

Altough I'd better not slag off Virgin too much, not since they took over Telewest and they now manage by cable connection. They really control what I send to these forums - Richard Branson is the greatest living Englishman
