I note that several of you have copied old English movies to DVD and got rid of the bulk of video tapes. I'd like to do this and would also like to be able to copy stuff from my old analogue camcorder (S-vhsc) to DVD.
Can anyone recommend an economical solution for this? Incidentally my DVD burner is on my powerful laptop (PIV 2.8 Ghz etc) so a USB solution would be ideal. Thanks, Jonathan |

PC based DVD-Burners are great for duplicating DVDs but for transfering tapes onto DVD, you're better off buying a desk-top DVD-R recorder and hooking it up to your VCR directly. Hitching a camera to it shouldn't be a problem either - most have composite input.
These have come down a lot in price recently - around £230 or less - and give pretty good results. For more info, I'd recommend a look at : http://www.dvdrhelp.com. The biggest decision is whether to go for DVD-R or DVD+R (remember Betamax and VHS?) You can get pricier machines that do both (Sony) but the budget machines (Panasonic or Philips) are usually either or. Hope that helps. |
