Default Help please

We have a Funai VHS / DVD combi which uses DVD-R /RW.

However it won't recognise our disks, although we have tried different makes.

Can anyone think of something daft that I may be doing wrong?

Thanks.

Welcome!

Presumably, it plays commercial dvds?

Have you checked your dvd-r r/w discs on another dvd player?

Have you finalised your dvd-r r/w discs before trying to play in the combi?

All the best

Thanks for your advice and the welcome - I have only just discovered your site and it looks great.

Sorry I didn't explain properly - it won't recogise the DVDs when I try to record on them.

Some machines only accept DVD - recordable and some only accept DVD + recordable. It's worth looking at the box and the book of distructions.

Have you had it for a while? We had the same problem with two different machines, and it turned out that the laser inside needed cleaning. Richer SOunds sell a cleaning disc which uses little brushes for £20.

Depending on which model you have you may be able to record only onto VHS - saw a Funai on a shopping channel last night and as 'a top of the range' according to the host, recording was only possible to the tape. Sorry if I've got the wrong end of the stick!
