Default Panasonic DMR-EZ25EB problem U61 error

On my DVD Recorder (Panasonic DME-EZ25EB) I am getting an error code U61 on the LED screen and on the TV display the resolution suggestion is to press enter, which will close the disc drawer, and turn the unit off; then power back up. I have done this but the unit went back to a U61 error initially with the same error message on the TV screen but the LED screen just says HELLO. Tried the sequence again but it's just goes back on the same loop. There is no disc in the machine.

Has anyone had a similar problem and know how to resolve it?

I have a Panasonic DVD?VHS recorder. An error came up on the VHS side.I looked through the guide to see what was up.On the second time of turning off it corrected the error. So that is all i can advise.Keep on disconnecting till it works.

my brother works for comet and says of dvd recorders returned as faulty panasonic is the most frequent brand returned. i'm sure there's been other forum members who've had problems with panasonic in the recent past.

Googling around for error code U61 on that device...
They say switch it off at the wall (or remove the power lead), wait 10 minutes then try again.
If that doesn't work then it's a problem in the power supply that this model is prone to. It'll need professional help, probably a new power supply

From previous threads and from personal experience Panasonic DVD recorders leave a lot to be desired and I ceertainly would never buy one again.

Having said that some people seem to have np problems. Maybe it is just the luck of the draw.

I too have a problem with a Panasonic DMR-EZ45VEBS DVD Recorder/Video Recorder. It began to display the U61 error code just after the one year warranty had expired. I was put out, to say the least, as I had hardly used it. On contacting the service engineer I was informed that I would be charged £45 just for it being looked at. It is in my spare room at the moment.
I would definitely never buy another Panasonic product as a result of this experience.

I have dmez25eb too (two years trouble free!) - never had this error code myself, but in the manual it says; 'Error code u61 -

The unit has found an error during recording or playback without an inserted disc.
The unit proceeds with the recovery procedure.
This procedure restores the normal operating mode. The unit is not defect.
Please wait until the message goes off.

I know this is gobbledegook, but it at least indicates, it may not be a serious error.

My own googling suggests that it may be a damp/condensation error, and a temporary relocation to a different room sometimes solves it!!

Best, Aaron

I find it really interesting to see this chat about Panasonic DVD Recorders. I responded to a post in December 2007 about the problems I have had with my Panasonic DMR-EZ27. They continue. Yesterday, I decided to update the freeview stations which are contained within this set. Well, I now have no digital stations and a just a few of what I take to be analogue stations ie BBC1 and 2, ITV and Channel 4. Despite my best efforts and many tries at re-prgramming I cannot get the digital progs back. Does anyone have any suggestions please?

I must say that all the posts I have seen about how others have found Panasonic recorders firtst rate doesn't strike any chord with me.

Just to add to my troubles, I then retured the Freeview channels contained in my Sharp TV - they all appeared in their updated places BUT when you switch the TV off and subsequently re-start it both BBC1 and BBC2 revert to a black screen when the title band (ie the one identifying the channel) leaves the top of the screen. Curiously the text still works on the channel but no picture? This has happened before but somehow I seemed then to get round it. Can't seem to sort it this time. As you can guess, I wish I'd never bothered to do the channel updating. Any suggestions about this would also be appreciated.

Maybe I've offended the God of TV.

Thumbs down

Aaron,
I had about 2 years trouble free usage as well and then it all went t**s up. It may have coincided with me using some Maxell DVD+RW discs but these worked pretty well for a while.

I know what the manual says but it is frankly rubbish. It is a serious error as the unit just wont work and it continues to come back with a U61 error avery time it does self-cleaning. They have clouded it in gobbledegook as you say. Damp and condensation is not an issue with the room it's in but I have been told that the lens is very sensitive to dust and they are expensive to replace.

I've now bought another recorder (not Panasonic) and have crossed fingers.

Thanks anyway.

I similarly would never buy a Panasoni DVD recorder ever again.
Not long after gettingit, it took exception to DVD-Rs. The recording would stop half way through with the stupid message telling me that the disc was damaged, faulty or dirty!
I changed over to DVD+R which seemed to be OK except that many of the recordings made refuse to play properly either on the original machine or on any other machine and they will not copy on PC bring up a write error message.

As far as I am concerned there is something basically wrong with the design of Panasonic recorders

Good luck with the new one Gleeson, I hope mine lasts another year....

Out of interest, i wonder what the consensus is, as to how long we can reasonably expect a unit to last these days..?

Personally, i think it depends on what we originaly pay.
So for around £50 i hope for a years service. For the £115 i paid for the panasonic i'm hoping for three years. For £250 i would expect four to five years. And for £500+ i would expect my interest in the unit to die before it does!!

I have a peculiarity with my Panasonic.Sometimes it refuses to playback standard PAL tapes, but is perfectly OK when i insert an NTSC tape. The all of a sudden without warning it goes back to playing PAL normally.
