Hdtv - The Next "vhs" Or The Next "betamax"?

Hi,
Well here I am with my first post [img]style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/clapping.gif[/img]

I heard on the radio that HDTV will finally be reaching European shores from the States. Apparently there is a huge HDTV screen in Cardiff for Live8.

What are your opinions on this new format? I appreciate there is probably scant news on this at the moment but with the expanse of the net, I'm sure there are some clued-up techies out there who can put it all into laymans terms.

I understand there are some TVs that if not out already, will soon be on the market with "HDTV Ready" on them so they can accept the broadcasts when they are made.

Regarding transmissions, I understand that Sky will start broadcasting HDTV next year sometime but there are no exact dates and it will likely be on premium channels anyway [img]style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/thumbdown.gif[/img]

Well I will bow out gracefully now and hope that this post forms an impressive thread.
