There is good and bad in the internet. But since being on the internet I have never met so many people who share my interests. Before the internet I felt pretty odd in the world especially in my pagan interests.

Now, I feel normal and sane compared to some

xx

Creative people feel isolated, they create, they`re not part of an established functioning society!

I love the internet. There are quite a few sites that I visit regularly (mainly film/tv/dvd/cd/book related) and I avoid anything that I might find offensive or disturbing. This is the only forum I belong to .... having looked at and experienced others, I count myself lucky to have found this one, which is visited by (mostly) sensible, intelligent people who know their stuff and like a laugh too. Some of the other forums out there are just insane free-for-alls.

"Aha Mr Aubergine ... that's where you're wrong!"

I can vouch for that. There were a couple of forums which I use to frequent where the policy was to deliberately cause offence to everyone else. Initially it was a bit of high-octaned excitement, but it developed into something really nasty with death threats abound. When this started to occur I left.

I think you do very well Moon - and in any case it is always an entertaining read.

Lets see, what has been going on in here..oh..hm..I see - oh my word! Riggghht!

Yes, the internet. I have joined loads but I do a round of about six every time.I'm not quite sure what draws me back to those, particular, sites..just the right kind of 'feel' in some way. I like them - now that I've learned not to take it all too seriously - I've made little pals on most and it is nice - you don't have the intensity of a solid world friendship and yet you can discuss away. I really like that.

I have never ever tried a dating site, and never will - I've got nothing against them - but not me at all. So, I don't know how mad they are - but I can imagine. On another forum I have used the women there told stories about their exploits (which I thought was a bit caddish and indiscreet) and it sounded hell - I don't think it 'worked' for anyone. But each to their own.

I have the feeling that I have only dipped my toe in the water as far as the net is concerned..I've learnt a great deal, but quite a lot about myself too, some of which I really didn't expect.

It depends on the person. I use an unmoderated one and some of the stuff is near the knuckle but it's also quite refreshing to say what you like about touchy subjects such as Jade Goody or Gary Glitter etc. If you're sensitive then they're best avoided.

Forums are like pubs, some are rough and some are good for a quiet drink.

PS. Bats, this means you're Bet Lynch!

I've been in both, and at this point in my life, I need the quiet ones like this forum, especially where my blood pressure is concerned.

He brings joy to me.

I agree, as someone said below - these places are for r and r - not aggro.

My greatest disappointment on the net has been the way some women interact with each other. I think it is probably an extension of ‘real life’ as everything seems amplified – but the less ‘secure’ women are often claws out, or trying any underhand trick in the book if there is some male they are after and they see you as a genuine ‘rival’.

I fell in to it once and realised that it was the competitive spirit in me that was taking hold rather than anything logical. When I looked at it I thought it was very sad – it always is. I’ve lost a few close or potential friendships with people I was genuinely interested in, over the years, over friction to do with some male.

I have also made a few lovely female net ‘friends’, who are secure enough and mature enough to realise that tactics are meaningless in these things and that genuine friendship or just decency between acquaintances can allow for this to happen without any need for rivalry or hurt. A few I hope I will stay in touch with – and we have genuinely ‘helped’ each other at times through situations that you don’t want to discuss with people in the ‘real world’.

One woman threatened to run me over. But mainly because I like The Smiths.
