I think I read you don't watch Corrie Bats?........Betty Turpin (though now it's Williams) is the lady on the far right of the photo, she's famous for her Hotpot served in Corrie's Pub The Rovers Return, Betty will be 89 next month and she's still one of it's most popular characters

I haven't watched it for years but I know who Betty is. I was just speculating on which forum member would make a good Betty .... Penfold seems to have the claimed the honour for himself!

Betty Driver is one of the few survivors from pre-war film (having been the 'next Our Gracie' for about 6 weeks in 1939). I wonder if anyone bothers to ask her about that that or do interviews all concentrate on her hotpot recipe?

I've not read it, but I am reliably informed that Betty talks about her early career here ....

Excellent - I look it out. Maybe she will explain how she was, apparently, the only woman ever to resist the charms of the odious Sonnie Hale.

She does, and a very interesting read it is too, her Mother was very overbearing and controlled her life for many years

I believe there is a tale about Mrs Formby having to get between Ms Driver and George, as she had caught his eye during the making of Boots, Boots (1934) ??

Interesting point from Captain Waggett. I'm afraid I fell into the "Hotpot trap" but now that you mention it her long career and especially the early pre-war memories could be more than interesting to read. Hilarious to hear about another of the predatorial Mrs Beryl Formby's stand -offs!

Now on its way to me for a bargainacious £2.79. BTW, love the Miss Roberts avatar - she tends to get ignored by Upstairs Downstairs fans (which is a shame, because she was fab)

I just wanted to say - if anyone thinks I am being rude by being here and not answering pms etc - it isn't that - I have a tendency to leave the site up, go out, forget about it and then come back to see I am still 'here' - not being rude or anything.

It is a great comfort when you are up in the night with earache!

I am really glad that it is here, to be able to sit in your jammies watching the dawn appearing and talking to people across the world about my favourite subjects - very nice.

I like to keep it nice and simple - generally, I don't do cryptic anymore - although it is a popular choice - because you can hurt people by mistake. But I think you can have a lot of fun mingling with people who share similiar interests to yourself.

Re - cryptic - Some people - on forums, you see - write cryptic posts ...I posted something yesterday, coincidentally, that later I thought someone might take literally.

I was worried about it - because I really thought things had settled down.
