Default VLC won't open my dvds.

I've downloaded the correct software, but after installation and insertion of either pre recorded or self recorded dvd, I just get this

I then go to the File menu (I'm working on a Mac) and ask it to Open Disc as instructed, but nothing happens.

Can anyone help please! It's driving me crazy.

Occasionally, when VLC won't play my DVDs, I have to go into Open Disk and check "No file DVD menus" and then press play. See if that works.

The only problem with having an open mind is that others keep trying to put things in it...

Point at the dvd drive, right click, then press Play with VLC Media Player.

Thanks for your advice. I think this is operator error, plus using a Mac (which unfortunately doesn't do right clicking) complicates things.

I will study the videolan forum and see what I can do.

Thanks again.
