Default 8mm Cine Film Collecting

Does anyone here collect 8mm cine films? I haven't bought any for many years, though I still have my old collection and projevtor.

Main main reason for asking is that I'm researching an article about Gerry Anderson productions on 8mm and would appreciate a steer towards useful forums where I might be able to askl a few questions.

Many thanks in advance.

I still have many 8mm films...the Gerry Anderson Films came from Walton Films...now sadly gone. I expect you know this anyway...they still get good money secondhand.
Your best bet is to contact Projections Magazine run by Pete Travers. This magazine is about and for film collectors on all gauges. yamawa@tiscali.co.uk or 02392 691150.

Excellent, that you for that contact. A lot of the Anderson 8mm stuff is well catalogued, though not all in the same place. There are a few things which aren't well known, like Lyons Maid Ice Lolly ads on 8mm ad reels.

Derann and Classic Home Cinema both brought out the 'Lolly Ad' Lord Brett...get onto Ged at Derann and Phil at Classic for more info. Also Paul Foster Films...Paul has an amazing memory of what was/is available.
The man who knows everything is of course Richard Holliss...he interviews Gerry on stage when he gives talks (Gerry wont use any one else). You can probably contact Richard via the BFI or Gerry direct.

I've seen Richard interview Gerry - he is very good. Once again, many thanks - I used to go to Derann for their film fairs years ago. Nice to know they're still thriving - is Derek still in charge?

I still have my Standrad/Super 8mm films and projector.I used them a lot .I subsequently bought a Bell & Howell 16mm Filmosound projector. The qualityof 8mm could never compare with 16mm and of course there were loads of non theatrical 16mm libraries.Nothing beats using a film projector.

Sad to report Lord Brent, Derek of Derann passed away a few years back...a great loss as he was 'The Arthur Daley' of the 8mm collectors brigade. The Blackpool Convention and dinner still goes on...8 & 16mm collectors seem to be taking DVD in their stride.

Yes I still colect 8mm (standard) sound and silent.Have several projectors too and they all get their turn in service.Quite often these days as the wife seems to watch every talent show in existence!

Orpheum: Yeah do 16mm sound as well (sad innit!)

As well as 8mm (2 x Elmo GS 1200 machines) & 16mm (Philips Studio Projector) I also have 9.5mm sound and silent (a converted 16mm Elf) and a Philips FP7 35mm projector with Dolby sound. Much as I love real film I am a Blue Ray DVD convert...The quality is amazing on both sound and picture. To think I paid over £500 for a 16mm print of Brief Encounter on 16mm 20 years ago...now you can get it for a fiver in HMV...Progress! Sorry My Lord,I called you Brent in the last note...Humble apologies Sir...

I still use 8mm, (hence Cinemal) next week I'm giving a presentation to a local Senior Citizen group then in November showing a collection of old railway films to a History Society. I have a GS1200, a couple of ST 1200 HD's and an Eumig for standard 8mm. All projectors are over 30 years old. I've had the HD's from new.
I also run 16mm occasionally (have about 90 reels of the stuff). Got into digital projection about 4 years ago, my Panasonic 700 is still going well, which apparently is something of a minor miracle for these new-fangled projectors!
Oh yes, 'Projections' mag is well worth having.

Good on ya' Cinemal...if only all collectors would adapt like you...my Panasonic 700 is also going well, even after many goes at cleaning the prism.
