Default Recording from Skyplus to a DVD (Combi) Recorder

Hi,
I have a TV programme recorded into my Skyplus digibox.
When try to I record to a DVD-R disc using my DVD recorder (actually a VHS/DVD combi Sony RDR VX-450) the sound and vision lose synchronisation in the transfer - it is fine when played back directly from Skyplus , so that there is a momentary but notiveable separation of picture and sound, like a badly dubbed italian western!
My TV is old, so I connect one scart from the Skybox to the TV and the other from the Skybox to the combi. Another scart conects the combi to the TV.

Does anyone have a similar experience and have a solution to the synch problem?
Any advice would be more than welcome.

My thanks,
Edward G

It sounds like there is a codec problem between the 2 systems meaning that the outputting signal isn't completely recognisable to the recorder.

I do have a solution but it's quite lengthy and not really much use long term if you're going to want to do this kind of transfer on a regular basis.

The unsychronised copy you have on DVD should be put into your PC via DVDShrink (free to download, just Google it if you don't have it) and the output set to avi.

The avi file may well play back perfectly on your PC but if not then Google Mainconcept H.264 encoder (again, free software) and convert the file to MPEG-2. This reincode will sychronise the sound for you.

The only other thing you could try, although there are no guarantees it will have any better results, is to hook your SkyPlus directly into your combi via scart then tune your recorder to find the signal. This should fool your recorder into thinking it is receiving a signal 'live'. Scart out from your recorder to your TV so you can see the results. Use a DVD-RW and test the results after 30 seconds recording rather than do the whole thing. If it works, wipe the disc and do the whole program.
