Default TV on PC monitor

I know that this is a pathetic question, and has been asked before, but how can I arrange for TV to be played through either of our monitors please? We have an excellent Xerox square glass-fronted one and a 22" widescreen ViewSonic. Both show DVDs very well.

Not pathetic at all, my Mac is my tv as well and I had to find out the same thing if I just didn't want to rely on my broadband, which although is 8mbs I only get 1.3mbs , so if in future BBC i player transmits HD programmes my speed will not be enough. However I digress, have a look at

On Your PC - Getting TV and Radio

It deals with what you need to know.

If you have a TV in (input) on your garphics card it should be as simple as running a 3 pin phone lead from the scart output of your digital box (Sky/Cable/Freeview etc).

If you don't then you'll need a USB capture card which are very cheap (around £8 on ebay) and software to run it such as Ulead Video Studio. This will enable you to playback and record TV from your input source.

Having 2 monitors you can buy a splitter to send one signal to both or you'll need the same set up twice to receive different channels to each monitor.

You could also try installing and using SopCast, a P2P TV program which (with some research and careful bookmarking) will allow you to watch TV from anywhere in the World.

This leads me to a similar question. As PC monitors are quite a lot cheaper than LCD TVs and I have a couple of spare freeview boxes is it possible to use a monitor as a conventional TV by rigging it up to a freeview box?
