Default Recommendation for ultra cheap DVD recorder?

Hi! I'm currently living with and looking after my elderly parents. Any rate, they have a BT Vision Freeview PVR which is rapidly filling up with all the movies I have recorded. I would like to get these recordings saved on DVD before my mother accidently deletes stuff (again grr). I have a very limited budget so can anyone recommend a DVD Recorder? I will need to hook up via SCART - nothing better on the back of the BT Vison box.

I don't need stuff like upscaling, BluRay, hard disk etc etc. I did think of an ultra-cheap SCART to USB capture cable for my laptop but that would tie up my laptop for too long whilst the recordings are going on.

So what I really need is a basic DVD recorder which does the job. Any recommendations please?

Many thanks in advance.

Have you considered buiong a capture card? They are about £8 on ebay. Add a scart to 3 pin phono lead and you can capture from the Freeview direct to your PC where you can edit and burn using the software you'll get with the card.

Total cost should be around 12 quid.

If you feel adventurous, It may be possible to whip out the hard drive, put it in a caddy and download the files directly to your laptop. I dare say you could then use virtualdub or something similar to convert them to a dvd friendly format if necessary.

There's a thread here that might be of interest:
