I saw a USB plug in digital receiver yesterday which can go into laptops or PCs. A friend of mine bought one so I've ordered one as well and it'll be here on Monday. It receives free to air digital TV, plus you can record programmes on to your hard disk. A great little device for just £29 plus VAT and delivery mail order from Novatech, slightly cheaper than an LCD telly or even a Freeview box!

Freecom DVB-T TV USB Stick

I've had stuff before from Novatech and they've got a good range of just about everything electronic or PC related.

Is it difficult to set up? Or is it just plug and play?

Very simple, even for me. I saw my colleague set his up on Friday and he just plugged in the USB receiver, connected the digital aerial (or straight to a TV aerial socket at home if preferable) loaded up the software and then it tunes in the channels. You even get a remote control unit for changing channels etc. Mine should be here sometime today so if I have any problems I'll let you know.

This product sounds most interesting, i supose it still has to rely on having a strong freeview signal? in the area i live in some people can get freeview while others reception is dodge too many hills when youve set it up sam do a report especially interested in the recording to the hardrive bit, presumably handled by the software.

cheers Ollie.

I set it up okay this evening and it scans all the available Freeview and terrestrial TV and digital radio stations and automatically stores them so you can just use the remote as a normal TV, with volume, mute etc as well. You can also use the software control panel to change channels and it has all the functionality of the remote control unit.

I live on the coast and reception is never very good without a Freeview box, and so the aerial supplied isn't much good unless you live in an area where there are plenty of transmitters, such as urban areas. I connected to my TV aerial wall socket, which is connected to a normal tired old TV aerial in the loft from years before digital TV came about.

The picture quality is excellent and adjusts automatically for wide screen, and to record there is a record button on the software control panel, and also an image grabber for when Fell is watching Walkabout or Logan's Run. I will play around with the record function when I have the time so watch this space.

Hello Sam

Thanks for the update as I was waiting to see how you got on,couldn't quite believe it would do what it claimed. So I am off to the site to purchase one,at that price it will be worth it just to play around with it.I like gadgets
