Does anyone have any experience with Lightscribe discs - cd or dvd?

My 5 month old dvd-ram writer stopped working and has been replaced [very promptly] by SVP. Fortunately, the model I had was out of stock so they've replaced it with a model that also copes with dual layer discs and has a Lightscribe facility - which means it can laser print a label straight onto special discs.

Both cd and dvd only seem to be available in 5s or 10s and aren't too expensive so I will experiment but it would be nice if anyone had any experience.

SVP only have HP and Verbatim for both CD-R and DVD-R

Some is the software's failure to recognize either the drive or the disk, and there's also some hardware issues.

The latest batches of concerns appears to be over "fading" of the image over the 9-14 months that some disks have 'lived', with some users saying the image has faded so completely that it can't be read. That's discouraging.

I've used them with fair results but I greatly prefer the Epson R200 or R300-series printers, which use less-expensive ink-jet-printable discs, and can do it in full color. No doubt those too will have image degrading over time, too, but it's doubtful that they'll fade so completely as to be unreadable, like some of the Lightscribe users discuss.

I'll still give it a go though as I'd probably only want a title on cds.
