I hadn't realised that the earning % had shifted so much, last time I read about it it was still 35-40%. I take your point about people being put off buying dvds of a rubbish film they saw at the cinema, but surely the dvd rental market could have the same effect.

Batman

You come across sounding like a person who doesn't have an illegal copy of anything in his house.
Which is of course, NOT the case.

I am quite upfront by saying that I will quite happily get hold of a 'bootleg' of an old film I cannot buy retail, but will replace it with a retail copy if one becomes available.

However, I would never buy a 'bootleg' of a future cinema release, no matter how desperately I wanted to see it, and I rarely go to the cinema these days. I am happy to wait for it to be released on DVD legitimately, after all, it's not that long a wait.

My boy wants to see the Transformers movie and I have been offered copies of this film, but I wouldn't touch them with a ten foot pole. It's out in December, just a few months after it's cinema release. That's surely not too long to wait, is it?

Try reading ALL of my post ... especially the bit where I state ''I will happily get hold of a bootleg of an old film''.

Also, the most recent film of which I have an ''illegal copy'' dates from the early 80s and has never had a commercial video or dvd release.

Having re-read my message above, in reply to Bats, it sounds like i was taking a cheap shot, and sounds offensive if read as written.

This is the problem with writing something in digital form (email etc).
True meaning and/or expression is lost and can't be conveyed properly.
I most certainly did NOT mean to offend.
The point i was trying to make was that we all have things in our house which aren't entirely Kosher.
You do, i do, we all do.
Even govt depts do !!

There was also supposed to be a smiley at the end of my message, but in my exuberant haste to post, neglected to add it.
The smiley would have left no doubt about the true meaning of the post.

If i have caused any semblance of offense, i unreservedly apologise.

Welcome to my life in the real world also. Autistics don't pick up on the visual cues, and therefore miss something like 70% of social communication.

To me there is no difference between expressing myself in writing and face-to-face... except in writing, in this form, I make less mistakes because I'm used to trying to second-guess the impact of words away from the benefits of Neuro-Typical Visual Social communication - and the playing field is levelled for me in this medium. Besides, I can spend minutes checking, re-checking and re-re-checking my posts to try and get it right... in the real world, I don't get that chance and am just as blind.

Welcome to my whole world, Dave
