Default Copying DVDs to my computer

Hello,

I've hit a tehnical problem and wonder if anyone here could help me with a bit of advice. I am trying to put a short film I have made onto My Space of their movie mash competion which closes tomorrow so I haven't got a lot of time. I've tried uploading from my dvd to their website and that doesn't seem to work. I then thought that if I saved it onto my computer then I should be able to do it from there but that doesn't seem to be working either. I may have saved it incorrectly so any ideas on how to save a dvd to a computer would be appreciated. I am sure it must be simple to do and I am missing something really obvious.

First off, what formats and file sizes do Myspace accept? Surely there are limits?

You might have to convert and downgrade your file.

I've saved it as a .gi film under compaq_Owner which windows won't open on my computer for some reason. As for size here is what is says on myspace. It said that the file was to big and I needed to download irfanview which I have but that seems to be of no help either. I have the film on a dvdr and am wondering if there is a better way of saving it to my computer than the one that I have been trying.

File Size Limit per upload: 100MB.
Acceptable formats: .avi,.asf,.dv,.wmv,.mov,.qt,.3g2,.3gp,.3gp2,.3gpp, .gsm,.mpg,.mpeg,
.mp4,.m4v,.mp4v,.cmp,.divx,.xvid,.264,.rm,.rmvb,.f lv,.mkv,.ogm.

I wonder what would happen if you Googled on the phrase "gi converter", or "convert .gi". You might insert/delete that Period and try different phrase searches.

If you can find something that will convert it to MPEG-4 (.MP4) or .AVI, then I'm sure the MySpace video converters will handle those, and probably give you the option re-size the screen (into MySpace's typically teeny size with crappy video resolution).

There's a format I've seen called .FLV that may be a relatively 'native' format for MySpace - and there are several FLV converters and players.

Thanks to everyone who offered to help. Much appreciated. I received a message on myspace from the movie mash people saying that some people had trouble uploading films and that anyone who messaged them by midnight on Friday would be given an extension until Monday. A friend of mine was visiting me on Saturday anyway and he sorted my computer out so I can now put films onto my computer and upload them to the internet. So the film is now on myspace and I made it in time for the competition. Just. I'm quite pleased as it really didn't look like I was going to make it in time at one point
