16mm sprocket repair tape

[CASSELL]

Hello, anyone have any old, odd ends of sprocket repair tape they wish to get rid of. I only need about 10 feet. Seems daft paying a fortune for a whole roll which I will never use. It is for single perf 16mm film.

Can't you do it with normal gaffer tape?

I thought that could hold most things. Cut it to width & then cut a few holes for the sprockets. Job done

Not so long ago I was able to buy some Standard 8 repair tape. As you probably know the sprocket size is the same.



Don't know about now though.



I did once "bodge" a repair of some 16mm film by cementing a clear piece of standard 8 along a badly damaged section. Went through the projector fine.

I think there are still a couple of dusty little equipment shops in Wardour Street .London W1 that could help you with that,so might be worth a stroll down that street to see what you can find.

I did say dusty shops not dusty dungeons is Wardour Street in soho? I wondered what those strange neon light were in the side streets in that area

I should say so. It runs right through the middle of the Soho area. Although confusingly, Soho square is off to one side of the Soho area. But Soho's always been a mixture of many things, the dirty book shops and girlie bars being only one aspect of its many charms

sorry you have all lost me here.I have a metal film splicer which does 8mm and 9.5 and 16mm and a bottle of liquid cement.You put the emulsion side up on the left.The scraper scarpes off the emulsion and you apply liquid cement.The film on the right hand side is brought down to join it,and held in position for about a minute.When the plates are released from both sides the film is joined again.

Nick Dando's comment was tongue in cheek and it is just the association with a "splicer" (cutting someone up with a blade or knife) and "cement" (burying victim in cement) and The Krays....
