Watching DVD's on TV

Every DVD I watch always necessitates having to turn the volume way up on the TV and also the brightness.



Is this peculiar to me or does anyone else experience it?

I have no trouble with the picture on DVDs, but I have the same thing with the sound on many DVDs. Not with DVDRs though.

The manual that came with my Panasonic VHS/DVD machine advises that turning up the volume is a requirement when watching a DVD but doesn't offer any explanation as to why this should be necessary.

This may be helped by looking on the "Set-up" menu on your dvd player. It will probably have options to click on including "video" and "audio". Sometimes the output levels on sound, brightness and contrast can be changed - they are normally set by default to "neutral" but can be increased or decreased according to personal tatse. Worth looking anyway.

I've always put it down to having tinnitus, being fairly deaf and having a cheap TV!



Perhaps I'm not as deaf as I thought I was?

The volume is low because audio on dvd is only recorded at about 10% (as opposed to about 90% on vhs and cd). Why this is done, I'm not sure. Usually dvd players have a higher output level to compensate, but maybe your's doesn't.



The darkness is probably due to some setting in the dvd setup menu.
